Earlier this year the Kennedy Center began embracing Hip Hop as a culture by adding a Tribe Called Quests Q-Tip and Simone Eccleston to the team, the duo work together to manage and direct the Hip Hop category but The Kennedy Center was just getting its romance with Hip Hop started, there are now plans to add a Hip Hop artist to the list of Kennedy Center Honorees and can you guess who that person is ? James Todd Smith but the ladies know him as LL yeah I'm talking about Mr. Cool J and with 30+ years of working in the industry, 13 studio albums and a drive that just won't quit this Hip Hop pioneer is still making major strides in his career including being the first Hip Hop artist in the Kennedy Centers 40 year history to become an honoree, he is also the youngest on the list.
LL wanted to make sure he passed on some words of wisdom from a lady who he gives all the credit to when he speaks on how he became such a success, want to know who that lady is? his grandma of course, he says, "My late grandmother passed some wise advice to me: 'If a task is once begun, never leave it 'til it's done. Be thy labor great or small, do it well or not at all.' That adage has guided everything I have ever done in my life and I couldn't be more grateful because it has led me here," and he also noted that,"dreams don't have deadlines. God is great."
With so many things going on in the world of Hip Hop one thing is for sure, its always nice to see credit given where it is due ! Thank you LL Cool J the Hip Hop game wouldn't be the same without your talents and the dozens of hits you have made throughout the years.
